Deputies in Clark County, Wisconsin have released the 911 call from a woman who reported herself driving drunk. Deputies say Mary Strey from Granton, 49, made the call about 2 miles from her home and pulled over at the request of the 911 dispatcher. A deputy showed up and administered a field sobriety test.”

The report shows Granton registrered a breathalyzer result of 0.17, nearly twice the legal limit for driving. She was ticked for drunk driving. It was her first offense.

Here’s the transcript of the 911 call:

Dispatcher: Clark County 911

Mary Strey: Somebody’s really drunk driving down Granton Road…

Dispatcher: …Which way are they going?

Mary Strey: They are going, um…

Dispatcher: Towards Granton or towards Neillsville?

Mary Strey: Towards Granton

Dispatcher: Okay are you behind them, or…

Mary Strey: No, I am them

Dispatcher: You am them?

Mary Strey: Yes, I am them

Dispatcher: Okay, so you want to call and report that you’re driving drunk?

Mary Strey: Yes

Sheriff’s Office: Bail Bondsman Shoots Suspect In Whitsett
WFMY News 2 gets answers about what bail bondsmen are able to do by law.Guilford County, NC– A bondsman allegedly shot a suspect he was trying to arrest early Tuesday morning on Rockcliffe drive in Whitsett.Sonny Ray Cranford was charged with statutory rape and sex offense in May 2008, according to information provided by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office. His $100,000 bail was obtained through the bondsmen at the time.In July 2009, Cranford failed to appear in court on the charges. So, the bondsmen went to find him, according to Cpt. Tony Caliendo with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.Deputies arrived quickly to Sonny Cranford’s home shortly after 1:30 Tuesday morning.

“All these sheriff’s cars and the squad was all up and down the road, both sides lined and guns,” said Bill Hudson, a neighbor.

They were on standby in the area as five people from the Greg Holeman Bail Bonds Company attempted to arrest Cranford.

“A lot of times we’ll have officers in the area because if someone does escape, we have of course have a duty to our citizens,” Caliendo said.

He said the bail bonds company got involved with Cranford’s bond last year.

“They’re trying to make good on their investment on it, so that they don’t have to pay the $100,000,” he said.

“I was really surprised because I didn’t know they had that authority,” Hudson said.

“Whenever they choose so, they may seize them and deliver them up. And, it even goes so far that they may, in a supreme court decision, that they may break and enter into the person’s residence to do so,” Caliendo said.

He declined to elaborate about the confrontation between Cranford and the people from the bail bonds company.
One of the people from the bail bonds company allegedly shot Cranford in the lower right leg.

“Just like anyone, they have the right to protect themselves,” Caliendo said.

The investigation into what happened is still ongoing. So, it’s not been determined if the bondsman who allegedly shot Cranford will face any charges. That will be up to the district attorney, Caliendo said.

WFMY News 2 contacted the Greg Holeman Bail Bonds Company for comment, but the calls were not returned.

Deputies said Cranford is in stable condition at Moses Cone Hospital.

WFMY News 2 counted 19 different charges which led to convictions on Cranford’s record. Some charges date back to 1992 and include habitual misdemeanor assault, possession of a firearm by a felon, and second-degree kidnapping.

PORTLAND — Indiana State Police today arrested a Portland bail bondsman accused of illegally trying to keep a client out of jail.

”

The Jay County prosecutor’s office this week asked ISP Det. Andy Byers to conduct an investigation involving allegations that John P. Osburn, 41, Dunkirk, removed a bond he issued from court documents. Osburn is the owner of D and J Bonds in Portland.

On Sept. 16, Osburn issued a bond for $7,000.00 to a defendant cited into Jay County Superior Court. Osburn received from a person posting the bond, a personal check in the amount of $700.00, or 10 percent of the bond. On September 17, the check was returned to Osburn for insufficient funds.

In lieu of petitioning the court to revoke the bond, Osburn allegedly removed the bond documents from the Jay County Superior Court files on September 17.

Byers completed his investigation and turned his findings over to the Jay County prosecutor for review. An arrest warrant was issued from Jay County Circuit Court Friday, preliminarily charging Osburn with theft and obstruction of justice, both class D felonies.

Sgt. Rob Ricks and Byers arrested Osburn without incident at his business and took him to the Jay County Jail. He is being held on $5,000.00 bond. Additional charges are pending.

Welcome,

We here at the California Bail Agents Association want to continue to be a leader in the bail bond industry in California and the United States. To that end, we are adding new programs and benefits that will help our members be the most informed and professional bail agents in the state.”

This blog will be an important part of that effort to increase knowledge, ethics and professionalism in the bail bond industry.

Your input is not only requested but, required to meet that goal.

No longer should bail agents be looked upon as leeches, scumbags or loan sharks, barely operating above the law. Or worse yet, no better than the criminals we bail out of jail.

It is time that each and everyone of us put petty diffrences aside and stop looking at each other simply as competitors. We need to work together to inform the public, the law enforcement agencies, the courts, district attorneys and private attorneys, that we are a neccessary and very important part of the criminal justice system.

They need to know that we are are the only part of the the criminal justice system that is held financially accountable for our performace or lack there of, for every bond we write.

Several years ago, I was in a discussion about whether the bail bond business was “industry” or a “profession.” Some felt that since we did not have an educational degree like lawyers, doctors, accountants, etc, we were better classified as a industry, rather than a profession.

That was a good point, I thought, since we had and still have many bail agents that come to the jails or courts dressed like they are going to the beach or deer hunting.

You see, first impressions are hard to overcome. If we don’t look, talk and act professional, we will not be treated with the respect that many of us believe we deserve.

It is now time for us to work together to improve our public image and protect our businesses!

Join us by joining in.
